From the options below, select what option suits what you are looking for most accurately:
1. The start of your journey
What is this step?
Every role in the sector has foundational learning and underpinning knowledge that everyone must be competent in their role. This section covers this underpinning knowledge and is essential to complete regardless of the post you hold.
What do I do with this step?
For those new to the sector or job role, work through the sections below, creating reflective accounts for everything you are learning and consider the Foundations - NIF. Open Badge linked to this section. These will be logged online so that you can share your learning with employers in the future.
If you have recently been trained and have completed your foundational training, consider creating a reflective account or completing the SSSC Open Badge Foundations - NIF. The criteria for this badge will ask for evidence of completion of each main area, and once approved the badge can be sent to any new employer you work with.Once you are happy with this section, please move onto the next stage using the navigation tiles above.
2. Resources for the role you selected
What is this step?
This selection of topics is based on the selected job role you
selected. If you already have the 'foundations' learned, this
next step will contribute to your development and training
into the role. Below are a list of resources that are on the
NIF that have been collated in conjunction with the sector as
important for this role. If you require guidance on writing
reflective work, please visit our

Are we missing anything? Speak to your manager or supervisor
about receiving this training and let us know using the

This way we can ensure others will receive a more complete
list.
What do I do with this step?
Work your way through the sections below, creating reflective accounts about what you have learned. Once you do this, you can move on to the next step. Also, once you have completed this, consider our Open Badge Role-specific Basics - NIF.
3. Role-specific training
What is this step?
Now that you have worked through the content above, it is
important to check in with your manager, supervisor on how you
can progress your skills in this area. Many roles require
specific work or observation-based training you may need to
attend.
This could include training where you are observed in practice,
or attending shadow shifts etc.
What do I do with this step?
Work your way through these steps, creating reflective accounts of each thing you are learning. Once you have completed this, consider our Open Badge Job-specific Training - NIF.
4. Development and career progression
What is this step?
Once you have achieved all of the previous roles, your skills
and experience could allow you to progress into a more senior
role, or even into other
Areas of Practice.
At this time, the National Induction Framework does not have
progression content, but you will be able to speak to your
manager or supervisor about progression options.
Alternatively, please look at the

other examples of job areas (categorised in line with the NOS)
to view other jobs that share similar skills as you.
