Equal Partners in Care (EPiC)

Equal Partners in Care (EPiC) is a joint project between SSSC and NES to implement the workforce education elements of the Carers Strategy 2010-15. It supports workers from social services, health and other sectors to work in partnership with carers. It does this by providing a wide range of learning resources to help best practice become universal practice. This should be your 'one stop shop' to develop your practice with carers and links directly to other resources which will be of interest.


Caring Together: The Carers Strategy for Scotland 2010-2015
Scottish Government (2010)

Caring Together sets out 10 key actions to improve support to carers over the next five years. The focus is on improved identification of carers, assessment, information and advice, health and well-being, carer support, participation and partnership.

In particular, Sections 4, Prioritising Support to Carers, Section 6 Carers Rights, Section 7 Carer Support Plans, Section 12, Carer Health and Wellbeing, will support achievement of this sections Learning Outcomes.


Promoting psychological wellbeing for people with dementia and their carers (Section 4)
NHS Education for Scotland

Make sure you are familiar with this section, which highlights the critical role communication skills play at all levels in compassionate and person-centred care.


An Educational Resource to Support Early Interventions for People receiving a Diagnosis of Dementia (Chapter 5)

This resource was prepared by the Dementia Services Development Centre on behalf of NHS Education for Scotland. The resource gives additional information on engagement and assessment in early stage dementia, and addressing needs in early interventions.

This website provides a one-stop-shop for information about Self-Directed Support for people who use social care services and health and social care professionals.

Parts of the resources are for carers.


Leading for outcomes: dementia (Part 4)
Institute of Research and Innovation in Social Services (IRISS), 2011

Exploring an outcomes-focused approach within the context of dementia. The whole of this resource will inform your practice, although for this section on 'Personal Outcomes' you might want to pay particular attention to.

The Carers section of this website provides a range of resources which support carers and which professionals should be aware of. It also provides support to the National Dementia Carers Action Network.

This information portal provides a wide variety of information which will support you to develop your knowledge and skills in supporting carers, as well as being a useful resource to signpost carers to.
