Module 1 - Section 1

Overview

This module is the first module in the Digital Learning Design series. It is designed to introduce a range of topics, most of which will be covered in detail in other modules.

What's this module about?

This module is the first module in the Digital Learning Design series. It is designed to introduce a range of topics, most of which will be covered in detail in other modules.

Part 1

How People Learn is an introduction to learning theories relevant to digital learning design. Understanding how people learn is the foundation of good learning design and should inform everything you do.

Part 2

Plan and Prepare is an overview of best practice in instructional design. These models and processes provide scaffolding, based on theories, to help you design in a structured way.

Part 3

Finding Online Resources is an introduction to existing resources and how they can be used in terms of copyright and licensing.

By the end of Part 3 you should be have a clear idea of what good digital learning design looks like. In Assignment 1 you are expected to evidence this by creating a framework for evaluating online resources. In addition to what you have learned you are expected to carry out independent research on how best to evaluate quality, accessibility, and usability.

If you can’t find an existing resource you will have to create one. This is likely to involve a combination of creating, re-purposing, re-mixing and embedding of content.

Part 4

Creating Online Resources you will be introduced to key considerations when creating online resources: writing for the web, using images and other multimedia assets, and some guidance on how to apply design processes from Part 2.

By the end of Part 4 you should be ready to design a resource. In Assignment 2 you are expected to demonstrate this by producing a design, informed by best practice in learning theories and instructional design.
