Foundations of practice

Core learning everyone should know

Working in social care can mean working with people at different stages of their lives and with different life experiences, also across a range of different settings.

These foundations of practice will be relevant for your induction and should all be completed if you are using the National Induction Framework. The learning content is grouped into themes aligned to the relevant National Occupational Standards to help you record and demonstrate underpinning knowledge for the core units of SVQs in Social Services and Healthcare.

Find more information on the NOS can be found here.

How to use this page ▼

Work your way through the tiles below and either create a reflective account of what you have learned, or find evidence you have earned in a previous role. Do this for each of the major tiles on this page, and when you have finished, present this to your manager for a review so they can determine what you need for your induction. If your employer decides you have enough evidence to cover one, some or all of the topics below, you will only need to receive any special or additional induction material that your employer has identified.

Some additional guidance can be found on the next dropdown.
