What happens next ...

You decided to update George’s risk assessment and care plan to reflect the concerns about his behaviour, so that workers could support him appropriately. Two months later, you receive a telephone call from Alan, who is George’s son. Alan has received a copy of his father’s care plan in preparation for his next care review and is not happy about some of the contents.

Play the video, then decide what you should do next by choosing from one of the three options below.

What's your next step?

Option 1: You acknowledge Alan’s concerns but explain that you also have to consider the rights of others who may be affected by George’s behaviour. You tell him you have a duty of care to your workers so have to do this.

Option 2: You acknowledge Alan’s concerns and say that you will ensure that these are fully discussed at the review. You also tell Alan that his views will be taken into account when future plans about George’s support are agreed.

Option 3: You explain to Alan that you were following adult support and protection procedures by recording the changes in George’s care plan and risk assessment to ensure the safety of other residents and staff.
