Breach of confidentiality
A member of staff Shona, asks to talk to you in private. She informs you of a personal problem that may require her to take time off at short notice. She asks you not to tell anyone why.

Option 1: During the next team meeting you tell the team that they may need to cover some of Shona’s work but don’t give any details.
Option 2: You make arrangements to provide cover and support for Shona but advise that you need to tell your line manager to make them aware of the situation.
Option 3: To make sure you can maintain a service, you start to plan cover for potential absences. During the next managers meeting, you explain Shona’s situation that short notice cover might be required.
