Dilemmas about choices
You decided to speak to your manager, Lindsay, about whether the service should be reduced as Isobel says she does not wish to have personal care support daily. On the basis of reported need, Lindsay changes Isobel’s support from daily to three time per week.
One day, Isobel’s granddaughter, Wendy, is there when you visit Isobel to provide support for her personal care.
Please play the video and once you have watched it, choose the option that describes the action you should take.
What's your next step?
Option 1: You advise Wendy that she will need to speak your manager as you don’t have the authority to change the level of service.
Option 2: You tell Wendy you will pass on her concerns to your manager to see if they can review the service. You also discuss with Isobel and Wendy why Isobel does not want to be supported to shower by workers. You ensure this is recorded.
Option 3: You acknowledge and share Wendy’s concerns but explain that you have discussed this with Isobel and she is clear that she does not want personal care every day, so you are respecting her choices.
