Enhanced dementia practice for inspectors

Learning outcomes

  • Explore how you can work in partnership with people with dementia, their families and carers, within your own sphere of practice; including the inspection process
  • Critically reflect on the rights of people with dementia to make decisions and to take risks in the context of their own lives
  • Recognise how legislation can contribute to person-centred care planning and maximise a person with dementia's ability to communicate their decisions
  • Describe the principles, key provisions and interfaces of key legislation pertinent to care and support for people with dementia, their families and carers. This will include the Human Rights Act (1998), the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act (2003), the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act (2000), the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act (2007), and the Equalities Act (2010)
  • Explore evidence based approaches and techniques for assessing neglect, harm and abuse and reflect on your own role in protecting people with dementia
