Child observation simulator: young children

Scenario #3 – Next steps feedback

Read the text below for feedback on what you might have included in your next steps.

The games have stimulated the children’s interest for the moment. They should be available along with the other puzzles and table-top games for children to select from.

It might be a fleeting interest due to the novelty of seeing a game from home in the nursery. They might not be interested tomorrow and your next steps should include observing the children to see if they are still interested in playing with these games.

Building on emerging social skills by include more opportunities for the children to manage and organise activities and games to further develop these skills and explore issues of fairness, including, delegating, helping others, negotiating and agreeing, turn-taking, team-work and an overall feeling of belonging (that comes from these attributes), especially in a mixed-age room.

You might hone in on skills that the games provide opportunities to develop: fine-motor skills, concentration, eye-hand coordination, counting, matching and preposition words that are necessary to understand and play the games.
