Child observation simulator: young children

Scenario #2 – Next steps feedback

Read the text below for feedback on what you might have included in your next steps.

The layout and resources appear to meet the children’s needs. This group of children were able to move around inside and outside in a fairly boisterous way without upsetting other children’s play-frames. They were able to use items from other areas in their imaginary play.

It might be worth exploring some of the underlying issues that belong to super-hero play. You might explain to the children that emergency services heroes and that heroes have a range of ‘powers’ like being helpful, doing something nice for someone and being kind etc.

You will want to find a way to reassure Seth about good versus bad people. This appears to be concerning him. Perhaps super-heroes could have powers that protect people from other things besides bad people, for example - from stepping onto the road or falling off a bike.
