Child observation simulator: young children

Scenario #1 – Next steps feedback

Read the text below for feedback on what you might have included in your next steps.

Could we draw on the empathic way Ella and Joe interact for the benefit of other children in the group. For example, would they be good role models for the other children in a covert way?

Is there a disposition that is apparent in their friendship that we would like to promote in the centre and how might we do this?

Social learning theory is an approach to child development which states that children develop through learning from other people around them. Social learning theorists emphasise the role of observation and imitation of role models eg pointing out positive aspects of children’s behaviour is a method of reinforcing the types of behaviour you want to promote in your centre.

Could you draw on this theory and Ella and Joe’s way of being/behaving with each other to promote positive attitudes and dispositions such as kindness, thinking about others and co-operating?
