Elinor Goldschmied in her book People Under Three describes the ‘atmosphere of quiet concentration as children become absorbed in pursuing their own exploration’ when heuristic play is provided. We are familiar with treasure baskets and use them a lot, but what do we know about heuristic play and how can we develop our provision to include this for children who are more mobile and for outdoor play?
Could we take a closer look at the Leuven Emotional Well-being and Involvement Scale and consider how we might use it to enhance our provision?
