Play in supporting child development

Case study - Julek

Julek is playing in the role play area. He has a stethoscope around his neck and is kneeling over a teddy that is on the floor. Julek is listening to the teddy's heartbeat. He says, 'Don't worry teddy, this won't hurt'. Elsie walks into the role play area and says to Julek, 'What are you doing?' Julek says to Elsie, 'I am listening to teddy's heartbeat; it's what the doctor will do when I go into hospital soon'.
