How good is our early learning and childcare?
How good is our early learning and childcare? (Education Scotland, 2016) is a new, revised framework for self-evaluation. Self-evaluation is a continuous, reflective process through which early learning and childcare settings get to know themselves better.
Self-evaluation:
- means carrying out a range of activities for self-improvement
- will help you find out your setting's strengths, so that good practice can be shared
- will help you find out what is not going so well, so action can be taken to make improvements
- is not a series of one-off events, but a continuous cycle of self-reflection and the evaluation of processes
- involves all children, parents, carers, staff and the local community of the setting.
Three stages of self-evaluation
- Looking inwards: knowing ourselves inside out through effective self-evaluation.
- Looking outwards: learning from what happens elsewhere to challenge our own thinking.
- Looking forwards: exploring what the future might hold for today's learners and planning how to get there.
