When you are involved in the safe administration of medication, it is important that you have a basic knowledge and understanding of the different types of medication that are commonly used so that you can identify potential issues and concerns.

In this module, you will learn about the common types of medication that are commonly prescribed and their different routes of administration. You will also learn about side effects and adverse reactions to medication, what you should look out for and what you should do if you have concerns.

Throughout the module, in line with the terminology in the Social Care (Self-directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013, we use the term ‘supported person’ to refer to the individual who is receiving the medication.
