Accessibility statement for the SSSC’s National Occupational Standards Navigator

This accessibility statement applies to https://learn.sssc.uk.com/nos/.

This website is run by Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

• All elements of the website exceed the minimum required contrast ratios and colour is not the only visual means of conveying information, indicating an action, prompting a response or distinguishing a visual element.
• Text can be resized beyond 200% without loss of content or functionality and content will reflow when the website is zoomed up to 400% without spilling off of the screen.
• No loss of content or functionality occurs when text spacing is changed by the user, this includes line height, spaces following paragraphs, letter spacing and word spacing.
• The content is not restricted to a single display orientation.

• The website is presented in a meaningful sequence to all users, there is a consistent navigation throughout the website and you can find website pages using the navigation menu or the site map.
• The website is navigable using a keyboard and there are no keyboard traps present.
• The purpose of each link can be determined by the user.
• There is a mechanism present to bypass blocks of content on the website.

• The headings and labels on the website describe their topic or purpose and alt text descriptions or a null alt text is available on all images.

• The default human language of the page has been determined within the code of the website.
• Text transcripts are available for the videos on the website.

• Mouse pointers do not make a selection until the mouse button is released, allowing the user to cancel their selection by dragging away from the element before releasing the mouse button.
• No changes of context are initiated on the website when a component receives focus or on input and components that have the same functionality within a set of webpages are identified consistently.

• Most of the website can be listened to using a screen reader (this was tested using Pericles: Text to Speech Screen Reader, Read Aloud: A Text to Speech Voice Reader, Chrome Screen Reader (ChromeVox), and NVDA).
• The name, role and value of user interface components and status messages have been programmed into the website to assist with the use of accessibility devices.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible.

• Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software.
• The closed caption option for the videos is not currently working.

The closed captions are currently not working for the videos.

We are aware of this fault and expect to have it fixed by summer 2021.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Guideline 1.2.5 Audio Description (Pre-recorded): (Level AA)

There are no audio descriptions available for the videos. The UK government guidance Understanding accessibility requirements for public sector bodies lists audio and video published before 23 September 2020 as something that might not need to be fixed.

We will make sure any new video content meets accessibility standards.

PDFs and other documents

Some PDFs and other documents are not fully compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, so some users may experience issues using assistive technologies like screen readers and Braille devices.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

We will make sure any new PDFs or Word documents we publish meet accessibility standards.

This website was last tested 26 March 2021. The test was carried out by MTC Media.

We used the following approach to decide on a sample of pages to test. This learning resource is an average sized website with some additional media and we tested as much of the content as possible. We browsed the pages to look for specific issues resulting in hundreds of page visits on as many different devices as possible, both physical and emulated.
