You decided to speak to George to make him aware that his comments are making people uncomfortable. George apologises and says that he was not aware that he was upsetting people. He tells you that he will not make comments like that in future. However, at her next supervision meeting with you, Ruth tells you that George is still making inappropriate comments.

Option 1: You consider the support that you can put in place for Ruth and record your discussion. You also speak to George, other staff and George’s care manager then update George’s care plan. You also ask his care manager to arrange a review.
Option 2: You sympathise with Ruth but explain that George’s behaviour is due to his condition. However, you recognise that Ruth might need additional support so you arrange for her to attend a dementia awareness course.
Option 3: You acknowledge what Ruth is saying and tell her you will speak to other members of the team to find out their experiences of working with George. You tell Ruth that it is important to gather as much information as possible to ensure that George is provided with the correct support.
