Statutory failings
You decided that you will follow this up in a few weeks at your next scheduled visit to the family. When you arrive for this visit, Luke is being looked after by his 13 year old sister, Kylie, while their mum is out. They don’t know where she is but she ”should be home soon”.

Option 1: You decide to wait in the house until mum comes home and tell her that she cannot leave the children unsupervised but don’t report this to anyone else.
Option 2: You phone your line manager immediately and inform her that the children are home alone. You also inform her of previous concerns.
Option 3: You phone the police to inform them that the children are home alone.
