Statutory failings
You decided that you will not follow up the referral until next week when you will not be on duty, so will have time to do it. However, on Monday of that week you receive a referral from the Out of Hours team. Luke’s neighbour found him out on his own in the garden, late at night again and as his parents were in an unfit state due to alcohol, she decided to take him in.

Option 1: You decide to follow this up at your next planned home visit which is later this week.
Option 2: You go straight to your line manager with this information and also inform her of the previous referral.
Option 3: You ask a social work assistant to call the family to find out what happened.
