Breach of confidentiality
After telling Shona that it was simply a general comment you overhear two members of staff from a different team discussing Shona’s situation and repeating information disclosed in the managers meeting.

Option 1: You have a quiet word with the staff members asking them not to discuss this and leave it there.
Option 2: You speak to your manager and tell them that there has been a breach of confidentiality from within the management team. You also speak to Shona and offer her reassurances.
Option 3: You challenge the manager of the 2 staff members about how they have found the information out.
